Robinson Crusoe By definition, a savage is an uncivilized person. Friday would not fit this description because he was civilized. He was a product of the civilization that surrounded him where he came from. His appearance, behaviors, and beliefs were that of all the others in what might be called his tribe. The simple fact that he had religious beliefs is evidence of him being somewhat civilized. A savage can also be thought of as anyone or anything not European. Clearly Friday was not European, yet his features were not consistent with what would normally be considered "savage". I promptly answered: â€Å"You are correct. The verb peruse is transitive. It takes an object. The through is redundant.† When I checked the Ngram Viewer to satisfy myself that â€Å"peruse through† would not come up, I was surprised to see that it does register, although barely. I stand by my initial response, that peruse takes an object and is not followed by a preposition. One might â€Å"pore over a book† but one â€Å"peruses a book.† Some controversy exists regarding the meaning of peruse. The attacker must have dragged the body, and then pushed it over the railings of the balcony. Somewhere along this process the abrasions on the abdomen and lower back and the laceration on the forehead might have been inflicted. When the criminal pushed the body off the balcony, perhaps with the intent dropping it to the ground and subsequently hiding the body for good, the rigor mortis that had set in due to the long wait between death and disposal caused the body to catch on the telephone cable.
